#one_year_without_buying_any_clothes was my challenge choice for 2018. Of course it was to raise awareness, we all know about our environmental situation, we all know about the impact the fashion industry has on our planet, we all know about fast-fashion, consumer awareness, about how we should just quit buying or at least reduce consumerism in order to do our planet some good. We know all that.

But basically when I do things I do them for myself. I wanted to find out what challenges were waiting for me, how I got through without going shopping, what secrets my wardrobe was holding for me. And I must say it was much easier than I thought. Once I got passed the habit of checking out each and every shop window it was quite deliberating, a lot of pressure was taken off. I started mixing and matching all of the pieces in my wardrobe and a new spirit of creativity breezed through my appearance.

"I believe that every morning when we get dressed we dress for the person we want to be during the day. That is a very basic way of being creative every day. A lot of us tend to forget or not notice that."

Even before I took on #one_year_without_buying_any_clothes I very much was into upcycling my old clothes. I took two or three pieces, cut them up and had them reassembled into something new. And as a painter I of course can't do without some paint and a paint brush….
